Title: A Perfect Retirement Treat in Boston
Category: Laid Back/Relaxing Author: Dwight

My Perfect Weekend...

After my retirement party, I promised to treat myself to a couple of tours with the whole family. This was like a pat on the back for me after years of overtime work. One of my children suggested we go to Boston for a weekend. I thought it was a great destination so I booked at The Langham Hotel.

We arrived Friday night in Boston and took a rest for tomorrow's adventure. My two daughters shared a deluxe room with two beds. It's actually among the largest rooms in the hotel. They loved the view of the city district and downtown Boston. My wife and I stayed at one of the executive rooms. Our room was more of a junior suite with a seating area. I think the room was perfect for us. I liked the room details. We really had a great stay at The Langham.

We had breakfast at Cafe Fleuri. We didn't want to look elsewhere; besides, this restaurant at The Langham looked classy and elegant. The Continental Breakfast which includes croissants, breakfast pastries, my choice of coffee and honey and sweet butter. My daughters had the Fitness Start and Traditional Langham Breakfast. My wife loved her poached egg, asparagus and lemon chive hollandaise.

After breakfast, we went to Boston Common which is a famous park in Boston. I think it's one of the oldest parks in the country. The 50-acre park is also the location of Central Burying Ground. The park is the starting point of the Freedom Trail which we also checked out. It's great to be in good shape after retirement especially during our walking tour at Freedom Trail. It's a no-joke 2.5 mile red-brick walking trail and we managed to tour it. We saw many historical churches, museums, parks, ships and markets.

The next day we went to The Esplanade which was 7 minutes away from our hotel by Cambridge St. The park is another popular destination in Boston. There are riverbanks, bike paths and walkways, boathouses, tennis courts, park benches, thousands of trees and more.

We also rode one of the Swan Boats. My wife and I thought the boat ride was romantic although it was only a short ride. We were paddled around the Public Garden Lagoon for 15 minutes.
